Earlier, today, I was researching about the various European worldviews in order for making my articles more effective, in terms of making it easier for the reader, to understand accurately, who I am and what I am asking from her/him.

At a certain point, I was studying the “Top 100 Best ZZZZ Movies” (where ZZZZ were the names of the EU member states). The results were surprising. The majority of the Top Best European movies were labeled under the following categories: drama, drama/thriller, drama/war, drama/crime, drama/horror, drama/historical, fantasy/drama, comedy/crime, fantasy/horror, comedy/drama, horror/thriller, crime/mystery, horror/crime.

My conclusion was that Europe may suffer from pessimism. And this made me wonder, how a cheerful, joyful, glad, merry, jolly Greek economist might have an effective written communication with so pessimistic readers, in order to share with them his positive, creative and optimistic opinions?

I have had a lot of thinking about that and my best guess was that it may be almost impossible to persuade anyone who is overwhelmed with negativity, even if your opinions are 100% correct and even if your arguments are complete and well formulated.

It seems to me that, effective communication almost as well as bonding honest human relationships presuppose that both the transmitter as well as the receiver of the communication (and the initiator as well as the receptor of relationship's proposal) to be relaxed, easy going, and playful.

According to my opinion, by being relaxed, easy going and playful, we may enable our selves to be able to communicate with the other human beings mostly by their “essence or shape of their entity's complete form” (gestalt). Or, to put it in different words, we may understand more accurately who the other person is and what is asking from us, by enrolling, within communication process, others non-verbal communication channels like sentiments and intuition.

I believe that one of the most crucial parameters of the honest and effective human communication may be the trustworthiness. And as one might suspect, our common language seems to be undecidable about the notion of trustworthiness.

As an attempt to overcome the undecidability of language about trustworthiness and in order for me to talk about effective, honest, human communication, I think I should turn, once more, towards art, as one, probably, effective metalanguage:

Movie: Men – 1986 directed by Doris Dörrie.

Julius is a successful businessman who lives in suburbia with his wife and two children. On their twelfth wedding anniversary, he learns that Paula has a lover. Although he has had many affairs himself, Julius is outraged. He moves out.

Determined to discover more about the person who has stolen his wife, Julius follows the man. When he sees him post a notice for a roommate, he seizes the opportunity to infiltrate the enemy camp. Stefan, Paula's lover, turns out to be an unemployed graphic artist with a laid-back view of life.

After Julius moves in, he finds out that his adversary is relaxed, easy going, and playful. Stefan tells him that his suburban lover calls him "her man from another star." Julius, still in the throes of jealousy, anger, and depression, touches base with the wild man at the bottom of his own psyche. He also finds out that Stefan is no great shakes as a lady's man either.

Doris Dorrie's trenchant German film reveals that men don't know what they want from women because they don't really understand themselves. Heiner Lauterbach is convincing as Julius, the male machine programmed to tackle challenges and overcome difficulties. Uwe Ochsenknecht is top-notch as Stefan, the hippie who dreams of becoming a successful businessman someday. And Ulrike Kriener brings just the right dash of romantic fantasy to her role as Paula.

While Julius's six-month leave of absence from his job and familial obligations gives him an opportunity to see himself afresh and to muse on the strange paradoxes in the war between the sexes, he essentially remains the same. He finds a clever way to triumph over Stefan and to win Paula back — victory is his most positive reinforcement. Such insights into the male psyche make Men a thoroughly engrossing and entertaining movie”. [from here]

Unfortunately, I don't speak the German language. By presenting the following, very funny, two video clips, from the above mentioned movie, I undertake the risk and despite my good intentions, of showing probable improper or distasteful conversations. If this might be the case please accept my sincere apology and notify me for replacing them.

Ehefrau zu Besuch (aus dem Film "Männer...")

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe. The EU operates through a system of supranational independent institutions and intergovernmental negotiated decisions by the member states. Institutions of the EU include the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank, the Court of Auditors, and the European Parliament. The European Parliament is elected every five years by EU citizens. The EU's de facto capital is Brussels.

The EU traces its origins from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the European Economic Community (EEC), formed by the Inner Six countries in 1951 and 1958, respectively. In the intervening years the community and its successors have grown in size by the accession of new member states and in power by the addition of policy areas to its remit. The Maastricht Treaty established the European Union under its current name in 1993. The latest major amendment to the constitutional basis of the EU, the Treaty of Lisbon, came into force in 2009. [wikipedia]

According to my opinion as an economist, in order for European Union to continue to exist both as a quasi living organization, as well as in order to prosper, effective communication should be maintained between, citizens within each member state, citizens and their corresponding governments withing each member state, citizens of different member states, governments of different member states, citizens and EU administration and finally, governments and EU administration. All these perspectives of effective communication might not succeed unless EU citizens previously become relaxed, easy going, and playful.

For the time being, mainly EU citizens are not relaxed, not easy going and most certainly, they are not playful at all. If this situation continues, I am afraid that EU integration might end up in bitterness. I do not wish that to happen.

I am just a Greek and European citizen. But still, I express my wish for EU administration as well as European leaders to put before everything else, at the top of their priority list, to make European citizens smile again. I am not asking for money. Because, we can be relaxed, easy going, and playful even while being poor. I am asking, EU citizens to be given some kind and honest words and also for them to be given relaxed, easy going, and playful examples to follow, by their leaders.

And then, our effective and honest communication may, naturally, lead to mutual trustworthiness; to fruitful cooperation; and peace, friendship and prosperity, in the end.

P.S.: Frau Doris Dörrie is a fine German film director, producer and author.
